In your image program, create four 16x16 pixel images — one for protected entries, one for private entries, one for usericons and one for community icons. Or you can find images by going to various websites, like FamFamFam or Icongalore. Once you have the images, save them and upload them to your own image host. For Example Photobucket.

THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR THE MINIMALISM STYLE

The BOLDED/RED codes need to be added to your custom style sheet

For Example:

     body {
        font-family: Arial, sans-serif;
        font-size: 12px;
        margin: 0px;
        background-color: #f8f8f8;
        color: #000000;
        background-image: url('');
     }
     a {
        color: #000000;
     }
     a:visited {
        color: #314667;
     }

/* User Icons */
     .ljuser img[src*="userinfo.gif"] {
         width:0;
         height: 0;
         background-repeat: no-repeat;
         background-image: url(YOUR IMAGE LINK) !important;
         padding: 16px 16px 0 0 !important;
         }
/* Community Icons */
     .ljuser img[src*="community.gif"] {
         width:0;
         height: 0;
         background-repeat: no-repeat;
         background-image: url(YOUR IMAGE LINK) !important;
         padding: 16px 16px 0 0 !important;
         }
/* Protected Icon (the lock) */
     .entry-title IMG[src="http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/icon_protected.gif"]{
         width: 0;
         height: 0;
         padding: 0 16px 16px 0;
         background: url("YOUR IMAGE LINK");
         }
/* Private Icon (the eye) */
     .entry-title IMG[src="http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/icon_private.gif"]{
         width: 0;
         height: 0;
         padding: 0 16px 16px 0;
         background: url("YOUR IMAGE LINK");
         }

I made a Tutorial for all the S2 Styles. Check the sidebar of my community for Resources and it's listed on that list under Tutorials and it should be called S2 Security Icons. :D

Thank you for putting me on the right track! I know this is an old post but people may find it like I did (on google ;)).

I'm using Refried Paper S2 style, and I had to tweak this for more current references and a little cleanup, but I would not have known where to begin without your code as a starting point.

This is what I used, that works on my LJ:

Under Custom CSS -

/* User Icons */

.ljuser img {
width: 0;
height: 0;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-image: url(http://www.yourfilehost.com/ANYIMAGE.gif) !important;
padding: 20px 20px 0 0 !important;
}

/* Community Icons */
.ljuser img[src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif'] {
width: 0;
height: 0;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-image: url(http://www.yourfilehost.com/ANYIMAGE.gif) !important;
padding: 20px 20px 0 0 !important;
}

/* Protected Icon (the lock) */
.datecontent img[src="http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/icon_protected.gif"]{
width: 0;
height: 0;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-image: url(http://www.yourfilehost.com/ANYIMAGE.gif) !important;
padding: 20px 20px 0 0 !important;
}

/* Private Icon (the eye) */
.datecontent img[src="http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/icon_private.gif"]{
width: 0;
height: 0;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-image: url(http://www.yourfilehost.com/ANYIMAGE.gif) !important;
padding: 20px 20px 0 0 !important;
}

Again, thanks!

The Rules

Rules
There really only are two rules.

1. Comment
2. Credit

If you can do those two things we'll be just fine. And if you can't well then I suggest you move along. I'm rather laid back and all that jazz just please don't abuse the privilege and make me make the community private.
